sunday school.

the mister and i went for a silkscreening class this past weekend at peach berserk (the hot pink storefront on queen street west). i actually didn’t know they held classes in the back of their store until i was looking around for his bday gift. for anyone interested, they run a class every other sunday. pretty cool.

overall it was a good time, a nine (yes nine) hour class might be a tad excessive, but you do walk away learning everything you need to know from building the actual screen yourself to making your design to screening your material. but, try telling that to my feet (and my back and my knees and my eyeballs). it’s kind of an odd experience, you’re left a bit to your own devices for a lot of the time…read: do not take the class by yourself! but we had fun. it was hilar to see the progress throughout the day. by the end of the class you are given two yards of fabric to practice your prints on and then one t-shirt, that you can hopefully walk away wearing proudly.

while i silkscreen here and there, it was an all new experience for the mister…you can imagine the hilarity i’m sure. i think the best is that all of his “test” prints on his two yards of fabric were flawless, and then he got around to doing his shirt….

amazing. i’m not sure what’s better, his colour-outside-the-lines technique (and all of the messy inks everywhere), or the fact that he started calling this piece “turbulence” (because of course, the attendant is clearly experiencing some here). after sulking a wee bit, he did take a stab at another shirt and totes redeemed himself. i would wear this one myself!

i of course made myself another banksy tee and also added a warhol banana to my collection.

good times had by all.

(oh, and best not to tell him i posted pics of his “turbulence”. he was quite adamant i not blog about it, and not “make fun” of him :) )
